Car inspection in Kaunas

Pre-purchase car inspection in Kaunas

Buying a used car in Kaunas or the Kaunas district? Before you sign anything, have it checked by an independent specialist. I have been inspecting cars in Kaunas for years – previously as “Autopatikra 24”. I come to the seller, check the body and paint thickness, run computer diagnostics, a mileage check and a test drive, and call you right after the inspection to explain the car's condition.

What I check

What a car inspection includes

Every inspection covers the body, engine, electronics, and suspension — with real measurements, not guesswork.

Body inspection

I measure paint thickness, identify repaired or repainted panels and structural damage — welding or filler traces — and check the SRS (airbag) system.

Computer diagnostics

I check fault codes across all control units and real-time parameters — the condition of the engine, gearbox, and other key systems. I compare actual readings against the manufacturer's specifications.

Mileage check

I check data across different electronic control units of the car to detect possible odometer tampering.

Test drive

I assess the engine, transmission, suspension, and brake performance, along with unusual noises and vibrations under real driving conditions.

Hybrid and EV batteries

Conventional hybrids (HEV). I assess the high-voltage battery of a conventional hybrid (HEV) using the vehicle’s diagnostic data under load: cell or module voltages, voltage differences and temperatures. I compare the readings with reference data for a new battery of this model and assess signs of degradation against manufacturer tolerances. I do not perform the Autel SOH Blitz Test with a PDF report for conventional HEVs.

Plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and electric vehicles. For supported plug-in hybrid and electric vehicle models, I carry out a CARA-approved Autel SOH Blitz Test using licensed Autel equipment. You receive a PDF report on battery health with the test results. I confirm test availability for the specific model before the inspection.

A full car inspection costs 200 €. The additional SOH Blitz Test with a PDF report costs +50 €; the combined price is 250 €. This surcharge applies only to the SOH Blitz Test for PHEVs and electric vehicles, not to a conventional HEV battery diagnostic assessment.

Report after inspection

After the inspection you receive a detailed report with photos and video footage, plus a clear assessment of whether the car is worth buying.

2022 Škoda Octavia pre-purchase inspection – mileage check
MILEAGE CHECK
ŠKODA OCTAVIA · 2022 · MILEAGE VERIFIED BY DIAGNOSTICS

Škoda Octavia pre-purchase inspection — diagnostics revealed a mileage of over 523,000 km

The listing and the odometer showed a mileage of about 183,000 km. During a detailed computer diagnostic, several control units revealed significantly higher mileage figures. One record showed that as of 2026-07-25 the car's actual mileage already reached 523,096 km — confirming a major discrepancy between the declared and actual mileage.

DECLARED MILEAGE~183,000 km
IN DIAGNOSTICS>523,000 km
DIFFERENCE~340,000 km
RECORDED 2026-07-25523,096 km
!
Result: a major mileage discrepancy was foundThe odometer showed about 183,000 km, while diagnostic data shows the car's mileage had already reached 523,096 km by 2026-07-25.

Dashboard

During the inspection, the dashboard showed a mileage of about 183,000 km. The same mileage was stated in the car's sale listing.

Computer diagnostics

During diagnostics, mileage data from individual control units was checked. Several modules showed values exceeding 521,000–523,000 km.

Mileage discrepancy

The difference between the dashboard reading and the diagnostic data was about 340,000 km — a major discrepancy in the car's history that cannot be detected by visual inspection alone.

The point of the inspection

This case shows why, before buying a used car, it's important to check the mileage not just on the dashboard but also across different electronic control units.

Inspection conclusion

The declared mileage of about 183,000 km did not match the data stored in several of the car's control units. Diagnostics revealed over 523,000 km, so a significant mileage discrepancy was identified before the purchase.

BMW X5 2019 inspection – hidden defect found under the engine cover

The car made a good visual impression. All checked metal body panels had factory paint, and no signs of panel removal were found during the inspection. However, after removing the plastic engine cover, a serious defect invisible from the outside was discovered.

Result: a hidden engine defect was foundUnder the plastic engine cover, a damaged valve cover was found — the broken-off piece had been glued back with epoxy to hide the damage.

First impression

The car's exterior and overall condition looked tidy. Visually, there were no clear signs that such a fault could be hiding under the engine cover.

Body

All checked metal body panels had factory paint. No signs of panel removal or reinstallation were found during the inspection.

Engine bay

After removing the decorative engine cover, a previously hidden defect was found — a damaged valve cover. The broken-off piece had been glued back on to conceal the damage.

Defect found

During the inspection, a damaged valve cover was found — the broken-off piece had been glued with epoxy. The defect was practically invisible from the outside and only came to light during a thorough vehicle inspection.

Inspection conclusion

A tidy body and a good first impression don't mean a car has no serious hidden defects. In this case, the problem area only became visible after removing the engine's decorative cover.
