SOH (State of Health) is the health of the high-voltage battery in per cent. It shows how much capacity the battery has kept compared with a new one. A new battery scores 100%.
The battery is the most expensive part of an EV or plug-in hybrid, and neither mileage nor the dashboard shows its condition. That is why an SOH test is worth doing before buying a used electric car.
This check shows more than a percentage: cell voltage spread, temperatures and battery fault codes reveal whether the battery is balanced and free of faults.
I run the battery test with licensed Autel equipment under the CARA-approved (Approved Battery Health Check) protocol.
This is not a full vehicle inspection – it does not include a bodywork assessment or a test drive.

I chose this man's services because I know absolutely nothing about buying a car. Saulius is a sellers' nightmare and a buyers' joy. He arrived on site at the agreed time and checked everything thoroughly. First he went over the car with a paint thickness gauge. Problems showed up right away – a crashed car, lots of repainting, quite a few parts replaced. Then he ran diagnostics and explained in detail where and why certain parameters are shown. He inspected the engine, the oils and other components. He did a "test drive" with me sitting next to him and watching. After the "test drive" he ran diagnostics again. He even got the price of the car reduced.

I connect licensed Autel diagnostic equipment to the car and run the CARA-approved Blitz test. Data are read from the battery management system (BMS), and you receive the results in a PDF report.
CARA (Car Remarketing Association Europe) is the European used-car remarketing association. Its “Battery Health Check CARA Approved” scheme approves battery health tests that read SOH from the battery management system (BMS) in a consistent, repeatable way – without dismantling or a road test. Autel is an international manufacturer of vehicle diagnostic equipment. I use licensed Autel equipment, and its SOH Blitz test carries the “CARA Approved” mark – you will also see it in the PDF report.
The SOH test with computer diagnostics of all systems costs 120 €. A full plug-in hybrid or EV inspection including this test costs 250 €. If you order a full inspection of the same car afterwards, you pay 130 € more.

No. This test is for plug-in hybrids and EVs only. A regular hybrid battery is assessed during the full inspection from module voltages, their spread and temperatures.
The SOH test covers the battery health test and computer diagnostics of all systems. A full inspection additionally covers the body, paint thickness, mileage check and a test drive.
A new battery has 100% SOH. The higher the SOH and the closer to 100%, the closer the battery is to new and the better its condition. Real SOH depends on how the car has been used, the condition of the battery cooling system and charging habits – batteries most often degrade faster with frequent DC fast charging. The lower the SOH, the shorter the real range compared with the manufacturer’s WLTP figure.
